Aaron’s Rules
- ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR DATA!
- Passwords are defined as a unique string of characters used to verify the identify a person. If you tell someone else that password, it is no longer able to verify the identity. DO NOT SHARE PASSWORDS! Do not write them down on paper. Use an encrypted method of password management/storage.
- Never trust. Always Verify. Have two points of verification before you proceed to click a link, give personal information, or even just purchase something.
- Get a trustworthy antivirus. Free is free for a reason and it is worthless.
- People are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6) applies to more than scripture. Ignorance is not an excuse. It isn’t with driving, guns, food, or computers. You don’t need to be an expert, but make sure you know enough to be safe.
- (Almost) NEVER click a link in an email. Go to the website yourself and search for what the email alerted or notified you about. If it was a one time link you were expecting, the click it.
- Check the sender address of emails to verify they really are who they say they are. Even then, that can be faked. Use a different method of communication if you suspect it is not them. This goes for social media (Facebook friend requests).
- Be honest. It helps IT professionals find solutions faster and secure you and/or the company confidently.
- Always carry a knife. One of the most useful tools out there.
